butter LONDON for Goop

butter LONDON is collaborating with lifestyle website goop for the second time, and has created four brand new lacquer sets, available exclusively at goop.

Stackers Trio ($40): This trio of nude lacquers covers the spectrum from light to dark, depending on your mood. The subtle shades – Shandy, Crumpet, Tea & Toast – make for a cool, monochrome look that perfectly complements any outfit, day or night. The Starkers Collection was created with three hues to blend with every skin tone, with the nude nail appearing effortless, luxe and completely purposeful.

The Stones Trio ($40): This jewel-toned trio of nail lacquers makes for the perfect set of colours on a wintry night out. The gemtone-inspired offering includes a mildly metallic navy, Big Smoke, a soft, blue-green with a tiny undercurrent of gold, Thames, and a proper royal-purple, HRH, that even the Queen would approve of.

Top and Tails Nail Set  ($28): The before and after to any at-home manicure should start and finish with butter LONDON’s Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat pre and Hardware P.D. Quick Topcoat post lacquer. Nail Foundation is the BB Cream of nail treatments acting as a cover-up, or makeup, for your nails. Imperfections are hidden, ridges are smoothed, and nails are left perfectly primed for polish. P.D. Quick Topcoat is a necessity for long-lasting manicures as it not only applies high shine and a smooth finish, but also protects the layers of colour beneath it.

Candy Coated Trio ($40): Looking forward to warm weather, goop chose this set of creamy pastel colours: Fruit Machine (pink), Jasper (yellow) and Fiver (green). Inspired by the charming colours and silhouettes of the 50’s era, pastels are on the horizon for spring.

Be the first to snag one of these fresh new sets at butter LONDON for goop , available in the US while supplies last... so hurry! :)

Review: Matrix Total Results Amplify Volume Firm Hold Hairspray

Matrix's Total Results Amplify Volume Firm Hold Hair Spray  has proved to be a total life saver for my unruly locks.  This multi functional hair spray acts as a texturizing and finishing spray, that also lends a 24 hour boost technology to help lock each strand into place and keep it there.
It is ideal for fine or limp hair, but I couldn't help but want to try it.  My unruly mane requires a spray that contains what some would consider, super human strength and I have to admit this one did the trick.
It has a lightweight forumla that kept my hair soft and pliable so I was able to style it easily without it getting hard or stiff.
I loved that it dried extreamly fast and passed the firm hold test with flying colors.  Many mornings I had slicked my hair back, sprayed it, and then realized I still had to change my shirt!  (Don't you hate that?)  That meant struggling to get my shirt over my head without messing up my hair, and surprisingly, it kept my hard work in tact.  It didn't leave any of that white residue after drying either.  Because my hair is very dry and coarse, I can't wash it everday and often have to settling for just rinising the product out.  Luckily, this spray rinsed out pretty easily and kept from drying out my hair.
It had awesome overall results, and its fresh clean scent was a nice bonus!

Retail: $15.00
Size: 11oz

New Collection: Perfume Portrait by Frédéric Malle

Frédéric Malle is launching a new collection of scents this month: Perfume Portrait by Frédéric Malle. Designed to serve as a collaborative effort with experts from artistic fields such as fashion, photography and film, this collection will translate the work of extraordinary individuals, with whom Frédéric admires, into original scents – the first being a fragrance collaboration with fashion designer Dries Van Noten.

Frédéric first embarked on this journey in 2010 and once the decision to work with Dries Van Noten was made, Frederic reached out to perfumer Bruno Jovanovic, of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc., to collaborate on this new project. Frédéric, Dries and Bruno worked together to capture the essence of Dries through materials and themes he often uses in his designs such as Indian embroidery, XVIIIth century engravings and graphic/colorful prints - which are all used to create an unexpected harmony.  Dries’ Flemish heritage was also incorporated into the fragrance through the softness of their cuisine, more specifically of their desserts.

Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle is a modern, oriental fragrance reminiscent of classic perfumes fused with the world of Dries Van Noten. The scent incorporates notes of sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli, musk, bergamot, and jasmine, giving it a timeless trait of the great perfumes.

"In 2010, ten years after founding Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, I decided to start a new perfume collection, the purpose of which would be to translate the world of people and brands that I admire into scents: Perfume Portrait by Frédéric Malle.
Asking perfumers to work on the olfactory illustration of someone else’s world meant losing the closeness that Editions de Parfums had allowed us. The ease of communication between two perfume experts, and the fact that until now we did not have to be accountable to anyone, was to be replaced by a “ménage à trois”! From now on we would be nourished by the world and guided by the requirements of a creator foreign to our trade, but capable of enriching our creative process with their aesthetics, thoughts and ideas. It certainly made up for this breach in our intimacy.
I realized, during the 18 months that it took us to translate the world of Dries Van Noten into a single scent, how difficult it actually is to make a truly customized perfume. This is why I am convinced that the result of such a combination of talents and energies had to be shared with the public. That is the purpose of this new collection." -Frédéric Malle

PRICE: 50ml Spray: $185; 100 ml Spray: $265
WHERE TO BUY: As Barneys New York was the first U.S. location to carry Frédéric Malle’s fragrances as well as the first to carry Dries Van Noten’s designs, it is fitting that that the fragrance is available exclusively at Barneys New York and Barneys.com

Review: MAKE Cosmetics

MAKE cosmetics is one of the freshest new lines on the market.  After it's launch last January on WeSeeBeauty.com it already been seen backstage at some of the hottest fashion events including Daniel Vosovic's Autumn/ Winter 2013 presentation last week, here in NYC.

MAKE is the first for- benefit colour cosmetics line on WeSeeBeauty.com - a benefit marketplace of ideas, stories and products that support the cooperative movement.  One third of all MAKE product sales will support the non- profit organization, the We See Beauty Foundation, dedicated to incubate and accelerate women- led, worker owned cooperatives.  The foundations first project is establishing a cooperative in Brooklyn, NY called DO Good Be Beautiful, that will create and sell its own healthy cleaning and personal care products.

MAKE encourages creative self- expression and introduces a new way of interpreting and celebrating beauty.  In addition to the complete range of core products, MAKE will pair two unique artists each season to create a concept collection.  The first partnership pairs furniture and interiors designer Faye Toogood (who has worked with Opening Ceremony, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen) with make up artist Ayami Nishimura to create the New Medieval Collection.

PR kindly sent a few samples my way to test out and guess what?  Faaaaabulousness!! I was sent the Silk Lipstick in Petra, the Luminous Lip Gloss in Nude and the Satin Finish Eye Shadow in Fennel.  I'm a sucker for that ultra sexy nude lip, and the lipstick's soft gold with peach undertones had just the right amount of sheen to make my look pop.  I only reapplied once or twice throughout the day so I would considerate it fairly long lasting.  I really love this shade because even with nothing but a little mascara, it made my (blue) eyes really stand out.

The gloss had a luxe, creamy texture that glided on without any stickiness.  It is a clay brown colour with peach undertones that created a very natural look with a super glossy finish.  I took notice of the uniquely shaped wand because it made application easier as it fit each contour of my lips.  As for the eye shadow, it was a pale leaf green with silver undertones and certainly lives up to its "satin finish" description.  It went on smoothly but was rather lightly pigmented for my taste.  If you prefer more subtle looks with a hint of colour and some shimmer then this is perfect for your collection.  If you like a bolder, take notice type of look, be sure to apply it over primer first and be prepared to add some layers.

Verdict:

I'm a total fan of MAKE and will continue to use their products.  I appreciate that it has set itself apart using a clear message and a solid mission, and incorporates quality into its products.

Have you tried MAKE?  Have you visited WeSeeBeauty.com yet?

MAKE Cosmetics for Daniel Vosovic Fall 2013

I recently attended the presentation of fabulous up and coming designer Daniel Vosovic to view his fall 2013 collection.  The collection embodies the modern day female aristocrat with chic lines and textures on stunning palettes like saturated emeralds and blues, enhanced by ivory, bordeaux and black.  MAKE cosmetics was backstage, led by Kristin Hilton, to create the look.  MAKE’s team of artists created a contemporary look that spoke to Daniel’s inspiration which referenced modern aristocracy – a polished girl with a playful side. A bold, statement lip was the focus of the look which was offset by the regal, porcelain-like skin.

SKIN:
Step 1: Kristin began by removing excess makeup with MAKE’s Makeup Remover Wipes
Step 2: She then applied AM/PM Moisture Cream to hydrate dry, winter skin
Step 3: Working from the palm of her hand, where she saturated a stipple brush with MAKE’s Soft Focus Foundation, Kristin blended the foundation onto the model’s skin to create a flawless, porcelain look. Concealer was used where needed to cover any blemishes or under eye darkness
Step 4: Kristin used MAKE’s Expert Veil Brush to powder the forehead, under the eyes, and around the nose to deliver a matte finish with a bit of extra coverage to ensure the look was perfectly polished
Step 5: Finally, Kristin used Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Kalahari – a medium cappuccino brown with yellow undertonesas a contouring blush

LIPS:
Step 1: Kristin began by applying concealer to the lips to offset any pink pigment that may interfere with the dark, dramatic colour she and Daniel chose
Step 2: She then lined the lips with MAKE’s Lipliner Pencil in Rum Raisin and filled in lips with Silk Satin Lipstick in Beetroot – an intense wine with red undertones

EYES:
Step 1: Kristin began by filling in the brows where needed to create a natural yet defined look. She used Expert Brow Definer Brush and Brow Sculpting Duo to provide definition
Step 2: MAKE’s Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Kalahari was also used on the eyeswhere Kristin brushed the shade into the crease of the lids and blended out to create natural shading
Step 3: She then lined the water line with Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Very Brown and blended Satin Finish Eyeshadow in Aubergine – an intense eggplant purpleinto the lower lash line to set the look
Step 4: Finally, Kristin curled the lashes with MAKE’s Eyelash Curler, applying several coats of Defining Mascara. She added a touch of Skin Illuminator in Skir to the inner corner of the eyes to brighten the look and add luminosity
