Celebs Celebrate American Heart Association's Heart Month

Since February is the American Heart Association’s Heart Month, stars were sure to rock some of their favorite designer’s red dresses to promote women’s cardiac health during this past season's New York Fashion Week.  Celebrities included Ireland Baldwin, Joan Jett, Nene Leakes, Lindsey Vonn, Kat Graham, Taryn Manning, Victoria Justice and Sasha Cohen.  NYC Cutler/Redken Stylist Jenny Balding led the hair for the show and provides an insider’s perspective on the hair for the show:

“At the Red Dress Show, you’re working with celebrities with a well established image within the industry so for the hair, we made them feel as beautiful as possible and runway ready.  My team and I consulted with each celebrity on their red dress so we could create a hairstyle that complimented both their red dress and individual style.  I personally styled Ireland Baldwin and Joan Jett.  For Ireland, I created a look that was sleek, elegant, sexy and off the face – this worked perfectly with her Donna Karan gown.   Joan Jett is Joan Jett so I just enhanced her rocknrollness!”- Jenny Balding

You still have a week left to show your support, so go rock that red!

New Launch from Miss Jessie's

The latest launch from Miss Jessie's , includes three brand new stylers designed to cater even more specifically to various types of curly hair.

Retail: $22.00

What it is: A treatment and styling hybrid specifically designed to address the unique needs of transitioning hair, simultaneously taming two very different hair textures without sacrificing style. This innovative styler helps women side-step the “Big Chop” with one easy-to-use product that bridges the gap that growing out relaxed hair creates. Offering superb hold and shine, Transitioner’s Magic is not only a prescriptive treatment for transitioning hair, but a coveted styler that transforms limp, unkempt locks into a flawless, cohesive mane from root to tip.
How to use: Apply to damp transitioning hair, air dry or diffuse as needed for a wash and go styling option.

Multicultural Curls
Retail: $16.00

What it is: A lightweight styler exclusively formulated for multicultural hair that enhances and celebrates natural locks. Too straight to be curly, and too curly to be straight – this product addresses hair that falls in the middle of the spectrum. This supremely light blend highlights whatever gorgeous texture you’re already working with and reigns in the frizz – whether the elements are the cause or the gene pool is to blame. Bouncy, shiny hair is achievable by way of a formulation that never hardens or leaves residue, but instead makes hair touchably soft and manageable.
How to use: Apply to damp hair, air dry or diffuse dry as needed for a wash and go styling option.

Coily Custard
 Retail: $14.00

What it is: A breakthrough transformative styler for women with extremely tight curls that does a 180 on bland, frizzy hair and locks in moisture with unparalleled curl definition and staying power. Coily Custard is a rich hydrator with a protective layer that prevents curl shrinkage and whips dry locks into defined, luscious submission for the seriously curly-headed woman who wants effortlessly smooth and defined ringlets without spending hours twisting them into shape.
How to use: Apply product to damp curly hair, air dry or diffuse dry as needed for a wash and go styling option.

The Coily Custard is one I'd love to try.  Is there one you think you're interested in?

NYFW 2014 Fall/Winter Pamella Roland

Vintage meets old Hollywood glam in the most recent collection from Pamella Roland. Form fitting dresses with deep V-cuts in lush colors like deep plum and red wine bared arms through sheer black sleeves. Silky black, gold, and burgundy dresses also stunned the runway. The Great Gatsby must have inspired much of this collection, as it’s apparent with the amount of flapper look alike dresses. Leather skirts and sequin pants with boxy, thick velvet sweaters were bountiful.

Models wore their hair in deep side parts and large finger waves in the front; long hair was brought all to one side over the right shoulder. Silver metallic eye shadow was used on the eyelids while lips were stained with a cherry red. Eyebrows were kept natural.

Beauty Box 5: February Box

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear, Beauty Box 5!  February was a special month for Beauty Box 5 as they celebrated their second birthday.  And celebrate they did with what's been my favorite box thus far.

I've never been more excited to be part of the Beauty Box 5 review team because not only was this month's box the best yet, but I feel like its a sign of even more exciting things to come from them.  For all the newcomers out there, Beauty Box 5 is a fun monthly subscription that hand picks five of the beauty industry's top products and delivers them straight to your door.

 Check out this month's goodies:

Rockstar Nails
Nail Polish $14.99 & Nail Sprinkles $14.99

Aside from the fact that these are a deliciously bright pink (my utmost favorite color), I love that this is a caviar duo.  The caviar look creates such an awesome effect on nails and I've been dying to try it out in a new fun color .. Which will be perfect for perking up these dull winter days!

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Touchably Full Shampoo and Conditioner
Retail: $6.99 8.45 fl

John Freida is one of the pricier drugstore brands that I've tried in the past but don't buy on a regular basis so this was a cool treat.  This pair, however, is designed to deliver volume and fullness to those with thin or fine hair.  Since volume is the last thing my unruly mane needs, I probably won't be lathering them up anytime soon, but I did sneak a whiff, and for the record they smell really good.  Its kind of summery and sweet like coconut.

Retail: $6.99

Something a girl can never have a enough of: forms of makeup remover.  In all honesty I wasn't expecting much when I ripped these bad boys open, but I'm here to tell you that they did a darn fine job.  One pad removed all of my makeup (very easily I might add) including all of my mascara, and my skin felt soft and smooth afterwards. It took less then two minutes and there wasn't even any soap type residue to rinse off.  This is a product that I would seriously consider purchasing if I came across it in the stores.  Products like these are great because they're so convenient and are easy to tuck away in your purse for emergencies.

Retail: $19.99 .33 fl oz.

What would a big birthday bash be without some big "look at me" lashes?  I was excited to try this mascara because I had heard good things about it and you beauties know how harsh I am with new  mascaras.  But this has a key element that I was eager to try: the hourglass wand.  Its shaped similar to Rimmel London's Scandal Eyes Retro Glam (which I love).
Well my darlings, this little guy did not disappoint.  It lengthened my lashes very nicely and because of that magic wand, I was able to get a noticeable fan effect going.  The volume wasn't overwhelming, but after several coats they began to look pretty good.  I still wish the color was darker and that the consistency was thicker so I could create a more dramatic effect, but overall its a good mascara.  Some benefits of the light formula is that it dries quickly, and keeps from weighing down your lashes so they can stay curled.  (Personally I usually don't usually curl them, I prefer to just blink into the wand) but for those of you who like a good curl, this should work well for you.

No outfit is complete without the perfect accessories and in true beauty fashion, Beauty Box 5 also included a coupon for $10.00 off a purchase at MyNameNecklace.com!  There's countless styles to chose from like monograms, initial charms, nameplates, bracelets and everything can be personalized.  I've already got my eye on a gold beauty and am just deciding what to have written on it :D

And don't forget to enter their celebratory birthday giveaway!! Enter their facebook sweepstakes to win two tickets to an amazing weekend getaway with Campowerment !  Contest ends 2/28-- best of luck dolls!!

NYFW Collections Fall/Winter 2014

 Designer: David Tlale

The David Tlale collection started soft and spring like, but ended on a dark note. First cascading down the runway were taupe loose blouses paired with white and tan high waisted skirts and shorts. Blush structured dresses with thick tweed collars in mustard yellow and brown shades. Then came the sheer black tops with navy blue and black leather jackets or detailing. Lace paired with sheer materials and rhinestone appliques on collars of the dresses made this collection irresistible.

The hair on models was kept at a deep part and the front of the hair was brought down for a side swept effect. This hair look is very popular for the fall/winter 2014 shows. For the skin, models faces had a matte finish to allow the metallic on the eyes to really pop. The inner bottom lash line was highlighted with a sweep of gold shadow. On the lips was a matte nude lipstick.

 Designer: Carmen Marc Valvo

Punk chic is the easiest way to describe Carmen Marc Valvo’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection. All pieces had mixes of textures like leather calf skin with metallic, velvet with leather fitted snake skin dress with a fur scarf, the entire collection was about mixing different elements to create an edgy, yet classic look.

For the makeup, models wore a shimmery ivory shadow on the centers of the eyelid, while lash lines bared with a wearable graphic liner. Top lids were lined from the outer half and expanded further for a slight winged liner look. Bottom lashes were also only lined from the outer half extending out a bit. The models faces were kept fresh and natural with a glossy, nude lip.

The hair was very interesting for this show; pieces were attached to model’s heads creating a fringe cut bang but solely focused on the center of the head. The rest of the hair was pulled slick back into a mid-ponytail with hair bands securing the tail to create a stacked ponytail look.

Get the Look: Hair at NYFW 2014

Hair by Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Creative Consultant Guido amped up the shine factor at the Coach presentation, in order to offset the heavier fabrics and textures featured in the collection. He used diamond oil shatter proof shine and shine flash 02 glistening mist to achieve this natural, wet shine look. To complete the very Americana look, Guido added leather feathers in the back of the hair.

"The overall look for Coach this season has a very distinct American kind of spirit. This girl is free-spirited and hails from the mid-west. I let the hair dry naturally and then added diamond oil and shine flash 02 to get a shiny wet texture, rather than a dry matte finish. It is all very American, and a little bit 70s with the middle parting."

-Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Get the Look: Hair, Nails and Makeup NYFW 2014

Hair by Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kept the hair simple and youthful for Marc by Marc Jacobs with two tight clean braids that were slightly disheveled by black headbands. In order to counter the more sophisticated collection this season, Guido opted for a hairstyle reminiscent of grammar school and cartoon characters. Jagged, messy partings and Redken's new flex texturizers gave the style a rebellious edge, making it clear to the bystander that the Marc girl is not your typical girl next door.

"I incorporated elements of manga, cartoon warriors and Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family into the look I designed for Marc by Marc Jacobs. Ultimately, I created this schoolgirl hairstyle with the Marc girl in mind, in that I wanted the overall style to remain youthful, cool and a bit punk. There is substance and style to the Marc girl, but there is also a rebellious dark side. Quite simply, the two braids are not meant to be that cute or innocent."

-Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

-flex shape factor 22 sculpting cream-paste

-pillow proof blowdry two day extender

Get the Look:

  1. Apply flex shape factor 22 sculpting cream-paste to damp hair from root to ends
  2. Rough dry the hair with fingers
  3. Create a messy center part down the center and divide hair into two sections
  4. Apply pillow proof blowdry two day extender from mid-lengths to ends for added texture
  5. Braid hair tightly on each side and fasten with an elastic
  6. Place black headband behind ears
  7. Pull some loose pieces around the face for an undone finish

Redken Creative Consultant Guido used two key products, satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion and pillow proof blowdry two day extender to create easy, undone hair at Victoria Beckham's SS14 presentation. The hair was slouchy, easy and pure luxury.

"I wanted the hair to be consistent with Victoria's simple and modern collection. The whole idea is to create that ultra rich and luxurious feeling, without doing much to the hair. The ultimate idea of luxury in the beauty industry has changed dramatically in the last few years. It used to be fantastic and grand, but that doesn't really translate anymore, especially with younger designers like Victoria Beckham. It is all about the subtle details that make a big different on the end result."

-Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

-satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion

-pillow proof blowdry two day extender

  1. Apply satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to damp hair
  2. Create a messy center part
