Dining Hot Spot:Tulsi

Valentine's Day is almost here and no doubt you love birds are on the look out for a spicy hot spot to spend the night wining and dining!  Well dolls, have no fear because I'm here to offer one of my top picks!

I recently enjoyed a fabulous meal at Tulsi here in New York City, hosted by PR.  Located on East 46th Street in Manhattan, walking through its doors transports you from the hustle and bustle of the city, to a warm, softly lit space with dreamy white canopies cascading down, and glorious stunning crystal chandeliers.  The ambiance is incredibly elegant and the overall experience was quite heavenly.

Guests and I were seated at tables down the center of the restaurant and ogled the delicious menu.  It included a variety of mouth watering Indian dishes:

First Course:
Lucknow Ki Tikki: Pan seared potato pancakes mixed with lentils and chickpeas, topped with tamarind, mint and yogurt
Shenyang Manchurian Cauliflower: Crispy cauliflower in a spicy chili garlic sauce
Main Course:
Shrimp Moilee: Cooked in yogurt, cashew sauce and coconut with curry leaves
Tamil Fish Curry: Onion, tomato, garlic, tamarind, fenugreek and curry leaves
Murgh Tikka Masala: Chicken, spices, and tomato gravy
Tandoori Lamb Chops: Marinated in fresh ginger, lemon, cooked in tandoor.  (Signature dish)
Gobi Takatin: Cauliflower bell, pepper, ginger, chaat masala and carom seeds
Kale Moti: Boiled black chickpeas sautéed with cumin, raw mango, red chilies and coriander
Chef Dhandu Ram's: The world's best dal which is cooked overnight in the traditional way on the tandoor, simmered all night and finished with tomato, ginger and garlic.
Chatpati Kurkuri Bhindi: Crispy okra pan seared with spices
Dessert:
Mughal-e- Azam Shahi Tukda: Indian bread pudding
Kulfi: Homemade ice cream

I couldn't stay for dessert, but every dish I sampled was delicious.  Among my favorites were the Shenyang Manchurian Cauliflower (pictured above), the Shrimp Moilee, and the restaurant's signature dish Tandoori Lamb Chops which was to die for.  The lamb chops were so tender and the sauce they were marinated in was absolutely amazing.  Given that I love spicy foods, nothing struck me as too spicy.  To me, everything tasted just right and very flavorful.  But should you be reluctant for fear of a spiciness overload, the staff was ultra friendly and can easily guide you with recommendations.  Whether you're looking for an intimate, date like setting or are out with a group of friends, Tulsi is a choice stop for a classy and delectable dining experience!
